planned-giving

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”  - Luke 6:38

As a recipient and steward of God’s bountiful gifts, you have an obligation and opportunity to share and return those gifts, providing support to God’s church and ministries beyond your lifetime.

CHARITABLE BEQUESTS

You can make a gift that costs nothing in your lifetime

A will represents a person's final wishes and intentions. After providing for your loved ones, please consider one final act of generosity through a bequest in your Will or living trust that provides enduring support for the church's mission. For many of us, this will be the most significant gift we will make - our gift of a lifetime.

How to Make a Bequest:

If you have not already done so, you need to make a Will or a living trust instrument. This is a significant and important undertaking. If you have a Will or living trust, you may only need to add a simple codicil to the present Will or make an amendment to the present trust.

Types of Bequests:

  • Specific Bequest: You may leave a specific asset or assets, such as real property, securities or a specific dollar amount. Click here for sample specific bequest language.
  • Residuary Bequest: You may gift the remaining balance of the estate after all specified distributions are made and all obligations have been satisfied. Click here for sample residuary bequest language.
  • Contingent Bequest: A contingent bequest is one that takes effect only if the primary beneficiary or beneficiaries of the bequest are unable to accept the bequest. Usually, this means that the primary beneficiary does not survive the benefactor or else disclaims the property. By naming Sharon Presbyterian Church as contingent beneficiary, Sharon Presbyterian Church would receive your generous bequest only if the purpose of the primary bequest cannot be met. Click here for sample contingent bequest language.
