planned-giving

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”  - Luke 6:38

As a recipient and steward of God’s bountiful gifts, you have an obligation and opportunity to share and return those gifts, providing support to God’s church and ministries beyond your lifetime.

SAMPLE LANGUAGE FOR BEQUESTS

Specific Bequest OF AMOUNT OR ASSET

A specific bequest can be a gift of cash or of other property. The following language provides examples you might consider:

Specific Amount (dollar amount or percentage)

"I give and devise the sum of $______________ to Sharon Presbyterian Church, 5201 Sharon Road, Charlotte, North Carolina, or its successors, for such uses and purposes as its governing board shall deem necessary, and proper."*

or

"I give and devise the sum of ______________ percent (__%) of my net estate to Sharon Presbyterian Church, 5201 Sharon Road, Charlotte, North Carolina, or its successors, for such uses and purposes as its governing board shall deem necessary, and proper."*

Specific Asset

"I give and devise _______________ (description of property) to Sharon Presbyterian Church, 5201 Sharon Road, Charlotte, North Carolina, or its successors, for such uses and purposes as its governing board shall deem necessary, and proper. "*

Residuary Bequest
A residuary bequest provides for the distributions of any assets remaining in your estate after all specific bequests have been satisfied. For example:

"I hereby give, devise and bequeath to Sharon Presbyterian Church, 5201 Sharon Road, Charlotte, North Carolina, or its successors, (all or a percentage) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, for such uses and purposes as its governing board shall deem necessary, and proper."*

Contingent Bequest
A contingent bequest takes effect only if the person(s) designated in the will to receive a particular portion(s) of the estate predeceases the maker of the will or is unwilling to accept the bequest.

"If _______________ (Name of beneficiary) predeceases me or disclaims any interest in __________ (description of property), I give such property to Sharon Presbyterian Church, 5201 Sharon Road, Charlotte, North Carolina, or its successors, for such uses and purposes as its governing board shall deem necessary, and proper."."*

*Please consult your attorney to consider the appropriate language for your Will specific for your particular circumstances as part of your overall estate plan.
